Eddie Hamilton’s work is primarily acrylic on canvas but also includes mixed media on wood panel. His direct and playful work represents the emotion, energy, and interactions of people in their communities.

Eddie’s paintings are developed after research and reflection on the concept to be represented. Currently, his work is the result of studying gentrification and interpersonal human urban contact. Acrylics, ink, and crayon are used because of the ability to quickly apply and layer these materials resulting in a continuous flow of work in one sitting.

His visual representation of people and the urban setting has been greatly influenced by his childhood in California. His fascination with communities and the urban life is a result of living in vastly different areas as a child and an adult search for a sense of a community to call his own.

I’ve been painting and working in clay since college, where I studied color theory, ceramics, sculpture, drawing and painting. I started a line of functional ceramics as a small business in 1997 after studying with Carol Gouthro, and have worked with metal, oils, and acrylics, but my medium of choice is bee’s wax. I learned a great deal studying with Jef Gunn and Larry Caulkins at Pratt Fine Arts Center, and have been focusing for the last 9 years exclusively on encaustics. It is the one medium that affords all the other materials I’ve worked with to overlap and inform one another. Bee’s wax is aromatic and physical, romantic and transparent, addictive and difficult. I find it inherently lovely.

Portland, Oregon based painter working primarily with acrylic paint, colored pencils, cray-pas, and pen to create vibriant colorful abstractions. I’ve been making art all my life. I love bright pink, lime green and I love DOING. Some things I am inspired by include children’s artwork, raw, unrefined circles, the eighies, graffiti…

My work is designed to uplift your soul. It is positive, spiritual in origin and one look at the honesty and warmth captured in my pieces makes a viewer smile.
My process is whats important to my art, more than anything else. Each painting is another chance to let go, to be free. To escape all rules and restrictions.
